I always envy girls who effortlessly pull off red lips, enhancing their porcelain skin and perfect smile. I on the other hand, have stayed away from reds since discovering that it enhances my acne spots and embarrassing red hues when I blush. Although my skin is not entirely under control, I have felt confident enough to take the plunge into the world of reds. First, I dipped my toes in with Revlon’s Lip Butter in Cherry Tart – which I loved! It brightened up my dull complexion and it’s totally care-free in the maintenance department.
Slowly, my very modest collection has expanded to include cult classic MAC’s Russian Red (a matte formula with a neutral undertone), Rimmel’s Lasting Finish by Kate Moss lipstick in 107 (moisturising formula, it has a blue undertone and pulls slightly pink) and my latest addition, Bite Beauty’s High Pigment Pencil in Tannin (great hydrating formula too, described as a deep poppy red).
While I haven’t mastered the statement lip for everyday wear, what I love about these deeply pigmented colours is that I can apply them quite carelessly with my finger for a modern, light, layer of crimson stain.
What’s your favourite red?
